US Armed Forces Southwest Asia Service Medal.
This military award is to recognise military service during the Persian Gulf war. The award was created by order of President George H W Bush in 1991.
To qualify for the award the recipient had to have served in, or in support of, operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm, between August 1990 and November 1995, and in certain designated areas of southwest asia.
The medal is not engraved to any named recipient.
The medal is full size and measures approximately 3 cm (1.25") in diameter.
