"Double Portrait of the Actress Ina Claire" is a signed limited edition hand tinted drypoint on copper print by Frank Martin. Ina Claire was born Ina Fagan of Irish descent. She was born on October 15th, 1893 in Washington, DC and died on February 21st, 1985 in San Francisco. She began her career appearing in vaudeville. She performed on Broadway in the musicals ‘Jumping Jupiter’ and ‘The Quaker Girl’ (both 1911). She starred on Broadway in plays by some of the leading comic dramatists of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, including the role of Lady George Grayston in W. Somerset Maughan’s ‘Our Betters’ (1928). Her last stage appearance was as Lady Elizabeth Mulhammer in T. S. Elliot’s ‘The Confidential Clerk’ (1954). You can read more about Frank by following the links on the "Special notes" tab below.
